Resumo
A key work in the distinctive colonial-era sculptural tradition of the Chiloé archipelago in Chile is a ‘St Michael’ in the church of San Francesco in Castro. It is here suggested that it is a product of José Brasanelli’s workshop and was probably carved c.1720–60 for one of the Jesuit missions to the Guaraní people in central South America.
